Our Story

We launched in 2018 by bringing the world’s first crypto ETP to market, and have since emerged as a leader in providing access to crypto through TradFi standards.

It started when founders Hany and Ophelia Snyder wanted to create a way to access crypto that even their parents could understand — a true standard in forging crypto-for-all.

Since then, we have built the largest suite of crypto ETPs, launched DeFi tokens, and established Onyx, our proprietary operating system — all powered by institutional-grade research to educate investors on the evolving industry.

Key Milestones

July 2018

21Shares Founded

Ophelia Snyder and Hany Rashwan launched 21Shares in July 2018 with the goal of creating crypto access to everyone.

November 2018

HODL Launched

Launched HODL, the world’s first Crypto ETP, on the SIX Swiss Exchange.

March 2019

Historic Investment Solutions

Launched the first physically backed BTC and ETH ETPs - 21Shares Bitcoin ETP (ABTC) and 21Shares Ethereum Staking ETP (AETH)

June 2019

Onyx

Launched proprietary end-to-end operating system Onyx to support 30+ ETPs operation.

October 2019

Staking ETP

Launched the world’s first ETP for crypto staking.

September 2022

$25M Fundraising Round

Value up to $2B, making 21.co Switzerland’s largest crypto unicorn.

April 2023

Filed for US Spot Bitcoin ETF with Ark Invest

Refiled for the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF in partnership with ARK Invest – as part of our commitment to the US market and to advancing a regulated spot crypto product.
